Tim McInnerny has apparently said the aliens in his Doctor Who debut will be "brilliant" for kids.

The Blackadder actor is set to play the villainous Mr Halpen and will appear surrounded by frightening looking aliens in Planet Of The Ood, reports the Daily Star.

And it seems he thinks the aliens, who are distinguished by their red eyes and wiggly "squid faces", will teach fans an important lesson.

"That's very clever of the designers and brilliant for kids," he is quoted as saying. "That little moral lesson not to judge a book by its cover."

Viewers will apparently see Donna and the Doctor meet the character when they land on ice planet Ood-sphere and discover the history of the species, who first appeared on screen in 2006.

Tim, who also appeared in Notting Hill, The Line Of Beauty and The Rocky Horror Show, is the latest high profile actor to guest star in the popular sci-fi series.

Ex Coronation Street actress Sarah Lancashire and Peter Capaldi have already appeared on screen, while Felicity Kendal, Alex Kingston and Colin Salmon are apparently expected to meet the Doctor later in the series.
