Madonna can rest easy, as her latest offering Hard Candy is getting the thumbs up from music critics.

Rolling Stone's Caryn Ganz says "fans who worried that Madonna might be losing inspiration as she approaches 50 need not be concerned," as he gives the album four stars out of five.

Q's music man Luke Lewis agrees.

"On the basis of the five tracks we heard, it sounds exactly like you'd expect a collaboration between Madonna and such super-producers as Timbaland and The Neptunes to sound a slick, ultra-modern urban dance concoction," he says.

Entertainment Weekly's Chris Willman says that the album's title Hard Candy suits perfectly, as it is filled with "perspiration-soaked determination".

He says: "If you're looking for softness, of course, you've come to the wrong place. Often wilfully vapid, the lyrics offer candy as a metaphor for sex, sex as metaphor for dancing, and dancing as metaphor for world domination."

Hard Candy, Madonna's 11th studio album, is out now. The singer is also at the top of the UK singles charts with her latest hit, 4 Minutes.
