George Clooney's kiss raised thousands

Some of the world's biggest stars auctioned off lots at the sparkling Cinema Against Aids gala.

Hosted by Madonna and Sharon Stone, the event in Cannes raised millions for the American Foundation For Aids Research (AmfAR).

We take a look at some of the items that went under the hammer, and a couple of lots that were auctioned off at the bash in recent years.

:: Madonna concert (2008)

The Queen of Pop was in Cannes to promote her documentary about Malawi's Aids orphans, and offered to sing two songs backstage during her upcoming tour to two "very lucky people".

"People have offered me millions to play at their Bar Mitzvahs," Madonna joked after making the offer.

But when the bidding stalled at 300,000 euros, she added "Don't humiliate me," before leaving the stage.

She need not have worried, as the intimate gig eventually raised 350,000 euros, the equivalent of £278,000, for the charity.

:: Time with Diddy (2008)

Hip-hop icon and fashion mogul, Sean "Diddy" Combs, auctioned 24 hours in his company.

He promised to "wake up" with the winner, and said: "I will fulfil your wildest dreams for amfAR and the children." The winning bid for a day with the Grammy-winning rap icon was 200,000 euros.

Diddy recently became the first male rapper to receive a star on Hollywood's "Walk of Fame", and said he hoped to consolidate his position as a "movie star in the making" at Cannes.

:: Sharon's wheels (2008)

The Basic Instinct star played auctioneer for the evening, and pledged 100,000 dollars for pediatric Aids research. She then auctioned off her red 1976 vintage Porsche 911 Targa, which she restored to its original lustre after it was stolen and recovered.

The car was the biggest lot on a night of conspicuous spending, and sold for 500,000 euros, after Sean "Diddy" Combs stopped bidding at 450,000 euros.

:: Clooney's kiss (2007)

George Clooney cemented his title as one of the world's most desirable men by auctioning off a kiss for a whopping 350,000 dollars at last year's auction.

This year Sharon Stone tried to tempt Madonna into auctioning a kiss for a similar sum, but the Material Girl refused.

"That's cheap!" Madonna quipped, "Everyone's kissed George Clooney."

Sharon Stone offered up George's services after his Ocean's Thirteen co-stars Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia and Ellen Barkin appeared on stage to auction off a seven-day Mediterranean cruise.

"If you bid, one of these guys will come down and touch you. And you can choose which one," shouted Sharon.

A man then bid 350,000 dollars so his girlfriend could kiss George, and the star promptly jumped onto the stage to pucker up to the lucky lady.

:: Supermodel massage (2000)

Supermodel and mother-of-three Heidi Klum offered a massage to one lucky guest, who bid 31,000 dollars for Heidi's touch.
