Early Life: Sharon was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and has three siblings.

A highly intelligent child, Sharon had an IQ of 154 when tested in her teens and skipped a grade at school.

She later attended Saegertown High School then enrolled at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania at 15, where she studied creative writing and fine arts.

As a teenager she worked in McDonalds.

In her teens Sharon was crowned Miss Crawford County, and one of the pageant judges suggested she quit school and move to New York to become a model.

In 1977 she moved to live with an aunt in New Jersey. She was signed by New York's Ford Modelling Agency and appeared in TV commercials for Burger King, Clairol and Maybelline.

However, Sharon didn't enjoy modelling so she decided to become an actress.

She returned to New York and in 1980 was given her first non-speaking but memorable role in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories.

More parts followed, then in 1992 Sharon bagged the female lead in Basic Instinct, which proved to be her big break.

Career High: Winning the Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in Casino in 1996.

Love Life: Sharon married television producer Michael Greenburg in 1984. They split three years later.

She was then engaged to producer Bill McDonald.

In 1998, Sharon married newspaper executive Phil Bronstein but they divorced in January 2004.

Sharon has three adopted sons.
