Britney Spears and Kevin Federline spent Tuesday morning behind closed doors in a Los Angeles court.
The US pop singer, her ex-husband and their lawyers appeared before superior court commissioner Scott Gordon, who is presiding over their post-divorce child custody issues.
Britney, who was wearing a white short sleeved top and calf-length combat trousers, left court at about 11am with her lawyers. Federline, who was dressed in a grey suit, left a short time later.
The substance of the court session was not immediately known.
Britney - who is known for chart hits like Baby One More Time and Gimme More - and Federline tied the knot in 2004 and were divorced in 2007. The couple have two children together - Sean Preston, who will be three in September, and Jayden James, who will be two this year.
