Pierce Brosnan was nervous about Mamma Mia!

He may have played iconic character James Bond, but Pierce Brosnan apparently reckons he was more nervous about shooting his latest film, Mamma Mia!

The movie is a film adaptation of the smash hit musical and features the songs of Abba.

"Because you're seeing Abba and you're seeing a song like SOS which is a real warhorse of a song in the stage production," he told Entertainment Tonight.

"I spent six weeks listening to my iPod and driving my kids nuts and my wife nuts, and the family and the dog and everybody nuts, just singing these songs."

Pierce stars as a potential dad of bride to be Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) alongside Meryl Streep and Colin Firth.

He recorded his songs in a New York studio.

"The day I had to go into the studio to record these songs - that was the darkest hour," Pierce admitted. "Because this was show time - there was no going back. We went downtown, big rehearsal room, very theatrical setting. We went for it and it all fell apart. I got nervous, tense. I was with my wife and I said 'I'm sorry, you have to leave. I'm having a meltdown here.'

"But I got the greatest confidence when I looked over and I saw Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard walk into the room. They're playing the dads as well and were equally as terrified. But by the end of the day, we'd recorded our songs and felt fairly good about it."
