Best Known For: Being the drummer in The Beatles

Early Life: Ringo was born in Liverpool and was very sickly as a child. He spent a total of three years in hospital and fell behind at school - it's been reported that by the age of 15, he could barely read or write.

When he was a teen he started his own group with Eddie Miles called The Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group.

He then joined The Raving Texans in 1959 and in 1960 he met The Beatles while he was performing with Rory Storm and The Hurricanes.

When The Beatles removed their drummer Pete Best in 1962, Ringo replaced him.

Career High: In 1965 Ringo and the three other Beatles were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), and received their insignia from the Queen at an investiture at Buckingham Palace.

Love Life: He married Maureen Cox in 1965, and they had three children - Zak, Jason, and Lee.

The couple divorced in 1975 and in 1981 he married actress Barbara Bach.

Don't Mention: Ringo still hasn't been knighted - despite Times columnist Daniel Finkelstein starting a campaign to get him one.

Words of Wisdom: "Well I'm getting happier all the time, which is very nice."
