Early Life: Michael was born in Rotherhithe in London.
During World War II he was evacuated to Norfolk and passed his 11-plus exam while he was there.

On his return, Michael got a job as an assistant stage manager at a theatre and got an agent, changing his name from Micklewhite to Caine.
