Jennie Bond has reportedly revealed that she would love to take over as the new host of Countdown.

The former BBC royal correspondent is said to be in the running for the job after current presenter Des O'Connor announced he was standing down last week.

"My agent has just been in touch to say my name is in the frame to replace Des," Jennie told the Daily Mail.

"If it is offered to me, I would love to do it. Being an older woman on TV used to be a problem, but not any more.

"Viewers like trusted faces - I'm still getting lots of work."

But Jennie, who was voted runner-up in the third series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2002, apparently said she couldn't replace numbers expert Carol Vorderman, who is also leaving the show.

She told the newspaper: "I couldn't do Carol's job. I am absolutely no good at maths."
