Nolan praises 'international' cast

The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan has paid tribute to the international cast of the movie.

The stars of the latest Batman film include three Brits - Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Sir Michael Caine, Australian Heath Ledger and Singaporean Chin Han, along with big US stars such as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman.

"The great thing about Hollywood is that it's a tremendously international business, tremendously international craft really," he says. "And you're free to choose people from all over the world.

"People come here from all over the world and it's really amazing. You get to pick from the best of the best. And that's how you find the Christian Bales and the Heath Ledgers of this world. And it's a great privilege to work with people that good at what they do."

The Dark Knight actually marks the third time the director has worked with Christian Bale, having directed the British star in The Prestige and Batman Begins.

"It's been very good," he says. "I enjoy working with Christian, just as you'd enjoy working with any actor who's just as professional and as talented as that. It's a really great combination of taking what he does very seriously, but not taking the process of himself seriously. That's a great ally to have on set."
