Tickets to see Doctor Who star David Tennant on stage in Hamlet are reportedly being sold for a fortune on the internet.

Tickets for the Royal Shakespeare Company play in Stratford-upon-Avon are fetching up to £1,000 for a pair, the Daily Star reports.

But a spokesman for the theatre apparently said they had the right to refuse entry to people who have bought these tickets.

"If you buy a ticket on eBay that ticket is no longer valid. Strictly speaking we are within our rights to refuse admission. We are contacting anyone who lists a ticket to explain they must remove the listing, and we strongly advise that no-one purchases tickets in this way," he said.

The theatre has apparently been flooded with sci-fi fans desperate to have a look at their hero, which the theatre acknowledges as a good thing.

"A lot of them have never seen Shakespeare before. If having people like David and Patrick (Stewart) brings in people who would never have thought of coming here, that can only be a good thing," a spokesman is reported to have said.
