Early Life: Kiefer and his twin sister Rachel were born in London to Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas who were working in London at the time.

But the family moved to Los Angeles shortly afterwards.

After his parents divorce, Kiefer moved with his mother to Toronto where he attended high school.

He won his first film role in the movie Max Dugan Returns in 1983.

Career High: Winning an Emmy Award last year for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for 24. His father Donald won an Emmy award in 1996 for his role in Citizen X.

Love Life: Kiefer was engaged to Julia Roberts in 1991, although their relationship ended just five days before their planned marriage.

He was married to Camelia Kath from 1987 to 1990 and the couple had one daughter, Sarah Jude.

In June 1996, he married Kelly Winn. They divorced in 2004.

Don't Mention: Partying. The actor has become known for his hellraising antics.
