Jade Goody is suffering from "advanced and life threatening" cervical cancer, a court heard today.
Ms Goody, 27, would undergo an operation in the near future, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
Details of her illness - which was announced earlier this summer - were given during a court case featuring her boyfriend Jack Tweed.
Tweed was jailed for 18 months after being convicted of assaulting a 16-year-old boy while living with Ms Goody in Ongar, Essex, two years ago.
A barrister representing Tweed said the Big Brother star faced "a long road of pain and distress".
"Jade Goody suffers from cervical cancer," barrister Andre de Moller told the court.
"It has been very recently diagnosed. It is advanced and it is life threatening. She is due to undergo an operation in two weeks time and is likely to be on chemotherapy."
He said Tweed, 21, and Ms Goody, 27, had started to live together again in recent weeks, adding: "It is plain that this lady has a long road ahead of pain and distress."
Ms Goody, a mother of two, has not given evidence during the court case.
