The stars of US TV were out in force on the red carpet before the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Famous faces from top shows such as Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Sex And The City arrived for the event at the Nokia Theatre.

There was a welcome return from Christina Applegate, who made her first appearance on the red carpet since her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment this summer.

Wearing a Reem Akra silk organza, jacquard draped gown, the Samantha Who? star, who was nominated for outstanding actress in a comedy, told E!: "It really feels good to be here. It's a great day. I've got a pretty dress on and lipstick, something I haven't done in two months. That's what life is all about."

Wearing a stunning floral print gown by Kevan Hall, Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams revealed to E! that she would present an award with co-star America Ferrera.

Talking about her role in the hit show, she said: "I'm playing evil a lot lately and it's winning me accolades so I'll stick with evil for now."

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker was just happy that for once she had an escort for a night out.

Wearing a glitzy silver dress, the 33-year-old arrived hand-in-hand with basketball star husband Tony Parker.

"It is different because he never gets to make these awards shows," she told E!

"I'm presenting with all the girls - all six of us as Dana Delany is now on our show, so there will be six of us on stage. It's going to be amazing."
