Although there have been several TV and movie versions following the adventures of infamous detective Sherlock Holmes, director Guy Ritchie reckons his new film will give audiences a fresh look at the character.
"We're going to try to introduce something we haven't seen before, authentic to the narrative," Guy told Access Hollywood. "We're trying to make this film fresh. We should have some good fight sequences."
His new Sherlock Holmes stars Robert Downey Jr as the Baker Street detective, Jude Law as sidekick Dr Watson, and Rachel McAdams as love interest Irene Adler.
"A lot of these things come out on the day, but we've made sure there's enough latitude left for me to be creatively indulgent," said Guy, who admits he was initially concerned about casting an American in the quintessentially British role.
"My one concern was the accents but this is no longer the case," he says. "Robert Downey has the best English accent I've ever heard. Also Rachel McAdams is playing American, which is true to the books. Outside of that, Jude is obviously Brit. Robert was obviously going to be the big one, and we seem to have transcended that particular hurdle."
