Daniel Craig is the best James Bond ever, according to Liev Schreiber, his co-star in forthcoming World War Two film Defiance.

"He is the best Bond ever in my opinion," said the actor.

Liev stars alongside Daniel and Jamie Bell in Defiance, which is about Jewish brothers who join Russian resistance fighters to fight the Nazis.

Speaking at a special Hollywood screening of the flick, he said of Daniel: "He's nothing like the character he plays which was very comforting to me because he really has a terrific heart and we were very close right away which helped me so much playing the character.

"I was surprised by how generous he was and how open he was and how kind he was to me. I didn't expect that, I sort of expected the steely grin of 007."

Director Edward Zwick insists Daniel can't just be seen as Bond: "He won't be pigeon holed and I think you'll see him continuing to resist that."

"I have seen him as Bond and he's wonderful," he added. "But I think this movie actually makes a statement by Daniel that he's going to refuse to only be Bond, that he's going to keep that range and breadth of ambition in his repertoire."
