Danny Boyle 'flabbergasted' at tribute

Danny Boyle said he was "flabbergasted" as his work was honoured by the prestigious American Film Institute.

The Trainspotting director jetted into Hollywood especially as the AFI paid tribute to his career and screened his new movie Slumdog Millionaire.

"I've very flabbergasted, which is not a word they use here very much but it's a word that feels right really," the British filmmaker said on the red carpet.

"When they first asked me I was shocked. You think, 'no they've got the wrong guy because I've only just started really', then you have to stop and think, 'hang on, I suppose there are a number of films actually'."

Despite being in Hollywood, Danny reflected on how he's tried to shy away from making big budget flicks, saying: "There's nothing wrong with those films. I love watching them but you learn you're not the kind of guy that can make those films. I'm much better working a bit below the radar and then I can control the film."

"You take less money," he joked, "but you can make the film you really want to make.

"Having said that, you take less money but you try and make it look like a hundred million dollars every time, that's always been one of my principles."
