The director of Terminator: Salvation left a prank message on Christian Bale's phone during the first ever screening of footage from the film.

McG hosted the world's first preview screening of six to seven minutes of footage from the unfinished film at London's Vue West End and told the audience he had arranged to call Christian, who plays John Connor, during the screening.

One guest said: "McG told us he was dialling Christian's number but he got voicemail. He left a message saying he was in the cinema with us and that we were all excited and he held up his iPhone so we could scream down the phone to Christian.

"Then he jokingly told Christian he had told us all he was moody, and hung up."

McG also rubbished rumours circulating on the internet about the ending of the new film, the fourth Terminator movie.

He denied the rumours hero John would turn out to be a machine and confirmed producers have mapped out the story for two more films.

The director refused to confirm or deny rumours Arnold Schwarzenegger would make a cameo in the film as the T-800.

McG said only: "The T-800 is a big part of the film and it's very exciting what they've done with it, I can't tell you anything else."
