Britney Spears' health records were sold to a tabloid newspaper, a medical centre worker has admitted.

Lawanda Jackson, a former employee of UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles, pleaded guilty to selling information about Britney, Farrah Fawcett and other celebrities to the National Enquirer.

Britney was admitted to the psychiatric ward of the centre in February after her custody stand-off with police a month earlier. She also gave birth to her first son Sean Preston there in 2005.

Lawanda Jackson, who entered her plea in US District Court, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a 250,000 dollar fine. Sentencing is set for May.

Jackson and her lawyers declined to comment after the hearing. She worked as an administrative specialist at the UCLA hospitals for 32 years.
