Take That considered re-naming their album after they found out it had almost the same title as Britney Spears's new release, Mark Owen has revealed.
The band's new album is called The Circus and is head-to-head this week with Britney's album - entitled Circus. Mark, who became father to a baby girl last month, said the title of Britney's album almost "ruined" it for him.
He told how the idea for the name came after the band were impressed by the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas.
"It's no ordinary circus, it's a really magnificent show, so strange and magical," Mark told the TV Times.
He described Britney's album title as "a real shame", adding: "When I heard about Britney, it ruined it for me, to a point.
"We actually considered renaming the album but that wouldn't have worked, either.
"The title simply fits the record and, besides, the artwork was already finished."
Mark told the magazine that it would be "great" to perform a duet with Britney. He said: "Things weren't going so well for her, so I hope she has success with this record - but if only she'd given it another name..."
Supermarket giant Asda said it yesterday sold 37,000 Take That CDs and fewer than 3,000 of Spears's albums.
Mark also told the magazine the possibility of a reunion between Take That and Robbie Williams would be the "crowning glory... Whether it'd be for one last tour or for just one song, personally, I think that would be wonderful."
