Mickey Rourke revealed he found it harder to act out emotion than to fight in new film The Wrestler.
The 52-year-old actor stars as ageing wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson in Darren Aronofsky's new movie, who is forced to retire after suffering a heart attack.
He tries to build relationships with his estranged daughter, played by Evan Rachel Wood and a stripper he has fallen for, played by Marisa Tomei.
Mickey said: "The emotional scenes probably were harder - what I had to use to tap into - but I was very fortunate that I had somebody as talented as Evan Rachel Wood to work with.
"She just was so professional. She's 20-years-old and she kept getting better and better every take."
Mickey has already been nominated for a Golden Globe for the Wrestler and is tipped for Oscar success.
He commented: "It's something positive, it's something nice. I mean it's the hardest movie I ever did and it's the best movie I ever did, so the accolades are really great.
"I am just so happy that when we had our premiere in LA that the real legends from the 80s came to see it and accepted me as one of them and they were OK with it and made me really feel that I did my job."
:: The Wrestler is released on January 16.
