David Morrissey on Doctor teaser

David Morrissey has admitted he knew he wasn't the new Doctor Who - but was happy to go along with the rumours.

The actor, who was the favourite to take the role after co-starring in the Christmas special The Next Doctor, told The Sun: "It was just a teaser campaign. I was the tease.

"William Hill closed the book on me, but it was all smoke and mirrors."

The 44-year-old also described Matt Smith - who really is the new Doctor - as "fantastic".
