Noel Gallagher said playing the guitar saved him from a life of crime.

Oasis guitarist Noel, 41, who grew up in the Manchester suburb of Burnage, avoided the criminal ways of his peers by playing music, reports The Sun.

"All the lads on the council estate I grew up with, apart from the ones that have settled down and have kids, they're all still drug-dealing, going out being f****** idiots," Noel said. "So let's put it this way, there's one less criminal in Burnage because I picked up the guitar. There's one less shoplifter in Manchester."

Oasis are headlining Spanish festival Benicassim on the east coast of Spain this summer, alongside Kings Of Leon, Franz Ferdinand and Paul Weller.

The festival runs from July 16 to 19 and organisers said more big names will soon be announced.
