Gwyneth Paltrow has claimed that Courtney Love did not give her a warm welcome when the pair first met.

The Sliding Doors star told Elle magazine she was "devastated" when she met her rock idol Courtney Love, because the singer was "really horrible" to her.

The pair are now good friends but Gwyneth said she was shocked by the Hole frontwoman's behaviour towards her when they met on the set of Gwyneth's 1999 movie Shakespeare In Love.

Gwyneth, who has been married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin for five years, said: "We were in an elevator and she was really horrible to me. And I was the biggest Hole fan of all time. I was devastated. Then she went on a drugs spiral."

Courtney later apologised to Gwyneth for the way she acted, which led to the formation of a close relationship.

Gwyneth said: "When she got sober, she contacted me and was like, 'I feel like I missed an opportunity with you'. Then we just started texting and talking and now when she's here (in the UK) she comes round. When we're in LA we have dinner."
