The set of the latest Harry Potter film has been allowed to reopen after an accident which left a stuntman badly injured.

David Holmes, a stunt double for the film's star, Daniel Radcliffe, remains in hospital with a serious back injury after the accident on January 28.

The set was cordoned off after the accident but the Health and Safety Executive has now agreed for it to reopen, a spokesman said on Friday.

"We have carried out a site visit and the set has now reopened," he added.

"The investigation is ongoing."

It is understood Mr Holmes, who is originally from Romford but lives in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, was practising an aerial sequence when he was injured.

He is receiving treatment at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, which counts treatment for acute spinal injuries among its specialities.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is due to be released in the summer, is in production at the Hertfordshire studios.

According to the Daily Mirror, Mr Holmes fell to the ground following an explosion which was part of the stunt during pre-production work on the seventh film in the series, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.
