Coldplay have said there is no rift with U2 and have even praised their latest album.

U2 frontman Bono called Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin a w****r in a recent interview but Chris isn't holding that against him - and now plays U2's new album No Line On The Horizon before gigs.

"We never started any rivalry, because we are fully aware that we are a No 6 band. We are not even No 2. We are always very thrilled when someone even bothers to compare us, because we are 23 years behind them and they are in a way different league," Chris, 32, told the Daily Star.

He added: "It's like comparing a high jumper with an astronaut. We are doing all right, but they have gone a lot further and a lot higher."

Bono, 48, has apologised for his tongue-in-cheek remark about Chris and has insisted that he's a big fan.

"I think Coldplay are a great band and actually it turns out he's a great soul as well."
