Mickey Rourke has signed up to star in Iron Man 2.

The actor, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance in The Wrestler, has been linked to the blockbuster for some time but finally closed the deal after negotiating a bigger salary, reports Variety.

Mickey, 56, will play a Russian baddie named Whiplash in the flick, which will see Robert Downey Jr reprise the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L Jackson will also be back in the sequel to the 2008 box office success and Scarlett Johansson is rumoured to be in the frame for a part.

Iron Man 2 is expected to hit cinemas in 2010.

Mickey will certainly be busy, as the Hollywood Reporter says he also looks set to star in indie tale Passion Plays.
