Blue Peter raised eyebrows when presenters Helen Skelton and Andy Akinwolere showed children how to make a fake turd for April Fool's Day.
The long-running BBC1 children's TV show, whose presenters often demonstrate art and craft projects, featured an item in which Helen and Andy used old plastic bottles, flour, water and - of course - sticky backed plastic to make the foul creation.
A BBC spokesperson defended the decision saying: "As well as learning, children need fun."
She continued: "Clearly all the children that watched it took it in the spirit of April Fool's as was intended."
