Coronation Street's David Nielson doesn't want character Tony Gordon to be killed off.

Tony is threatening his character Roy Cropper on the show after confessing all to him, but David doesn't want him to come to a grizzly end.

He told Inside Soap magazine: "They can't kill off Tony! The fascination with Roy and Tony could go on and on - I love the way they've connected."

He added: "If they're got rid of Tony, it would mean the loss of a really great Street character."

Unfortunately, Gray O'Brien who plays the crazed killer is set to leave the soap, but it is not yet known how.

David also revealed he thinks Tony and Roy have a lot in common.

He explained: "They both have similar traits. That said, Tony is a much more psychotic and single-minded! Roy likes to have things in order, and then he can deal with them. If anything goes wrong, Roy can't cope. He needs to be in control - but so does Tony.

"They're different sides of the same coin in that their mindset is quite similar.

"They're the only two people in the show that you could do this story with."
