A pioneering £4.6 million breast cancer research unit is being officially opened by the Prince of Wales.
The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Unit at Edinburgh's Western General Hospital aims to find ways of improving diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
The centre is based at the University of Edinburgh's laboratories, within the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, and is next to the hospital's existing breast unit.
Charles, the patron of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity, will tour the research unit and breast clinic, where he will meet staff and unveil a plaque.
The Duchess of Rothesay will visit the hospital's Maggie's Centre - a place where anyone affected by cancer, including families, friends and carers, can get support.
The Prince and Duchess will later meet ballerina Darcey Bussell during a tour of a dance centre on Edinburgh's Grassmarket.
The Royal couple will see some performances at the Dancebase National Centre, as well as meeting groups of professional dancers and participants in community classes.
Charles will end the busy day of engagements in the Scottish capital by making a keynote address before architects and planners at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
He will be joined by First Minister Alex Salmond at the seminar entitled Sustainable Places: A Scottish Future.
