Shopper's tarantula shock

14 May 2008 07:02am

A supermarket said an investigation had been launched after a customer found a tarantula in a bunch of grapes bought at one of its stores.

Kevin Hudson, 40, of Elmswell, Suffolk, who discovered the 5cm creature after a shopping trip to Asda, in nearby Stowmarket, said: "I was a little bit shocked."

Mr Hudson said he captured the tarantula in a plastic box and took it to a vet to be identified, although the exact breed is still unknown. It has since been taken to a local reptile centre. An Asda spokeswoman apologised for any distress caused.
