Runaway hamster 'in custody'

12 June 2008 06:08am

A hamster has been "taken into custody" after handing himself in at a police station, a force said.

The brown and white rodent walked into Cheltenham Road East Police Station, in Gloucestershire, but it is not believed he committed any crime.

Bemused officers said the pet was now locked up at a nearby animal shelter where it is hoped his owners will come and bail him out.
