The Tata Group has said it had no interest in sponsoring Barclays Premier League champions Manchester United.

Manchester United are seeking new sponsors after troubled American insurance company AIG said they would not renew their deal with the club.

In a statement , the Tatas, owners of the giant car manufacturer, said they had no intention of making a deal after speaking to club official, saying: "Tatas do not have any intention of sponsoring any football club at this point of time."

The statement continued: "Manchester United's marketing team, which is on a visit to India, sought a meeting with the Tatas and we have granted a hearing as a courtesy.

"There is no formal proposal or plans whatsoever related to the same."
