More than 12,000 men and women will power-walk through the streets of Scotland's capital in their bras to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Landmarks across the city, such as the castle and Royal Yacht Britannia, will be lit up in pink to show their support for the Edinburgh MoonWalk, which is in its third year.

Participants can choose between a half or full moon marathon, which are 13.1 and 26.2 miles respectively, starting and finishing at The Meadows.

The first walkers will set off at 11.25pm and those on the half marathon will finish from around 2.30am on Sunday. Those completing the full marathon will finish from 5am.

Singer Michelle McManus is among the thousands taking part this year.

Nina Barough, chief executive and founder of Walk The Walk, which organises the event, said: "After two incredibly successful years we can`t wait for the third MoonWalk Edinburgh.

"The beauty and spirit of the city by night conjures up a very special atmosphere, attracting people far and beyond to join us.

"We want this year to be even bigger and better to help us reach our £3 million 2008 fundraising goal."

Previous money from the MoonWalk Edinburgh has gone towards The Breast Cancer Institute in Edinburgh, Maggie's Cancer Care Centre, Glasgow and scalp coolers throughout Scottish hospitals

Since its launch in 2006, the MoonWalk Edinburgh has raised more than £4.5 million. It is hoped that this year's event will raise in excess of £3 million.
