Police have charged two men with murdering a teenage girl and her grandmother in an alleged arson attack.

Shannen Vickers, 17, and Pauline Adams, 57, were overcome by smoke as they slept in their flat in Bethnal Green, east London, on Sunday morning.

Scotland Yard said Jake Sheehan, 19, of Bethnal Green, and David Philip, 18, of Bow, east London, would appear at Havering Magistrates' Court charged with their murder.

The fire broke out at seven-storey Malmesbury House in Cyprus Street at about 6am on Sunday.

Firefighters found the victims in the rear bedroom of their three-bedroom flat.

Shannen was a popular business studies student at Epping Forest College in Loughton, Essex.

More than 1,000 people signed up to groups in memory of the teenager on the social networking website Facebook.
