Police have released a photo of a pregnant woman who died along with her unborn child after a BMW car mounted a pavement.

Anne Marie McCreadie, 29, of Sark Close, Lowry Hill, Carlisle, Cumbria, had been walking with her husband and a friend when the tragedy happened.

She was taken to hospital with serious pelvic injuries but died later.

Police were called at 6.27pm on Friday after the collision in Wilson Row, Penrith, Cumbria.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "A blue BMW coupe mounted the pavement and collided with a pregnant female pedestrian who was walking with her husband and a male friend. The woman sustained serious pelvic injuries.

"The male driver of the BMW was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is helping police with their enquiries."

Officers from the North Cumbria Roads Policing Unit are investigating the incident, the spokesman added.
