An investigation is under way following the discovery of a man's body in the undercarriage of a plane after it arrived from Africa, police have said.

The dead man was found by engineers inspecting the aircraft after it landed at Gatwick Airport in West Sussex from Accra, Ghana, on Thursday.

The grim discovery was made after the Ghana International Airlines plane, flight number GU101, arrived just after 7am.

An airport spokesman said: "London Gatwick Airport is working closely with Sussex Police to determine the circumstances leading to this tragic incident."
